GRS-1 worth?
Hi All, We have an old Topcon GRS-1 and PG-A5 GPS system. Is there any way to collect static data with this setup and use for post processing? Or is it just not worth it to try and re-purpose this old system?

Yes, you log data on the GRS-1 controller, using Topcon TopSurv software
Sure it’s worth it, better than nothing at all.
If your GPS antenna with the GRS-1 is truly a PG-A5, then it only has elements for L1 GPS + L1 GLONASS and probably picks up SBAS too. You should be able to log L1 static data on the GRS-1. But being L1 only, you could not have it processed through OPUS so you’d need the software and some other source of static data to do the processing yourself.
You could pick up a used PG-A1 probably on the cheap that would enable you to add the capability to track the L2 components of the US and GLONASS signals. But to make this work, the GRS-1 would need to have the L2 Static option for US and GLONASS enabled. I would have to look up the cost on that. If it was as much as $2,500 to accomplish both those things, and I think it would be, you would probably be better off spending your money toward newer equipment.
