Great day in the field
What a great way to end a job! It was a pain on paper, 100 year old deeds, terrible descriptions that didn’t match. 20 chains and 29 chains on the same line. 7 degree bearing that was 70 degrees. Probably took time off my life trying to make it fit and in the end it didn’t.
But when running the last lines in, I set the first of my computed corners and on the way back to the 4 wheeler I tripped over a concrete monument with a nice big X chiseled on top! I found 5 more completing the last line. They all sucked compared to the deeds but I felt like I won the lottery. Not gonna argue with that kind of evidence.
What an excellent way to finish a 54 acre survey in a crappy swamp.

You bet, this was one of the best days I’ve had in 45 years of chasing the elusive lot corner. I believe they were set by Ethan Maxon, a county surveyor from years ago who really put effort into his work. Setting concrete monuments at “normal” lot corners was “normal” for him. And this area was his, lived there and did a lot in a very tough area to work in.
Felt like I just took a walk back into history, wow.
