Goodbye little friend.
Posted by Rob O'Malley on February 14, 2011 at 6:05 pmWell, after a month of wrestling with guilt. My wife and I decide that our Pug needed to be released from her pain. I thought I could be tough but burying her yesterday was definitely hard.:-(
She is now resting underneath the Birch tree where she used to lay in the summertime shade.
Run free and catch that ball again Missy.:-D

🙁 I’m so sorry to hear that. She may be gone physically, but she’ll be in your heart forever.
Your friendly, virtual neighborhood WebmasterCondolences. Putting a pet down is not an easy decision, but it often becomes the right one.
Letting someone or a pet such as yours go for their own benefit is a very hard choice to make. I’m sorry you were faced with that choice but the decision you made, makes you worthy of having pets in the first place. When it is time, get another pet, “not to replace the one you lost”, but to just have a pet around who is always glad to see you come home. Some refuse, they lose much for that choice.

I can somehow sense the tears in your post above.
I understand.
Condolences.
Nate
I know the dynamics of your home have changed –

been there about 15 times, and about 35 more times to go –it never gets easy–tdd
 Hugs for you and your wife, Rob.
Admins WifeMissy looks like a sport! I for one knows how you and your wife feels. It never gets easy. I’m so sorry for your lost.
I can still hear my 2 dogs we lost last year when times are quiet.
They are always near, for ever with you.

All dogs leave a hole in your heart, but pugs leave one much larger than their size would indicate.
We had to make that decision with George Wallace, my mother in law’s 15 year old pug last year. She is 78, and now has my daughter living with her. To hear her tell it, the dog was nothing but trouble, chewed up all his toys (but not her shoes or furniture)and left bits all over the house.
After a month of severe depression, we finally got her to attend grief counseling through her church. She kept saying, “but it’s just a dog!”, and refused to admit the loss was as great as losing any human friend. That was one of the first things the pastor told her, that loss is just that, and the source does not matter. He said he did counseling with a man over the loss of his boat after Hurricaine Ivan.
Missy looks like a sport of the first order, know her pain is over and while yours is sharp, it will be replaced by the joy the memories of having shared your life with such a loving creature brought.
In the best cornpone tradition that is my life, I am reminded of a country song.
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known you’d ever say goodbye
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I’d of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn’t I the king
But if I’d only known how the king would fall
Hey who’s to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I’d of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I’d of had to miss the danceThe Dance
Garth BrooksThank you ALL for the replies. It wasn’t an easy decision as you all know. We have been going through old pictures reminiscing. The 3 pictures that I posted are within the last year.
We didn’t realize, until looking at past photos, that she hasn’t been “smiling” for quite some time now. She was a good dog and a great companion, especially to my wife. She loved going camping, even in her last days, since it would allow her to roam around freely. We took her rafting with us quite frequently and with her doggie PFD, she would swim beside us down the river. (in the calm stuff of course). And her favorite thing was to sit in my wife’s lap at the end of a hard day of camping falling asleep beside a campfire.
What I didn’t mention is that we adopted her around 3 yrs old as she was a pound rescue. And when the time comes, I will try my hardest to get another rescue.
She was a sport indeed.:-)
The third photo is the best one. She looks content; suitable for framing.
Your friendly, virtual neighborhood WebmasterFunny that you mention that Wendell.
Last summer we were at Hells Canyon in near perfect (not Hells Canyon deathly hot) weather. We had one of those floating islands tied off, but about 100′ out from the dock. She swam out there climbed on(with help) and sat in one of those larger netted holes that you can put your belongings/drinks/camera in.
I was dangling off the side and happened to grab the camera and snapped off that near perfect picture.
For a black dog, she LOVED to bask in the sun.
Rob,
Sorry about your loss and condolences. We have three pugs and they are such loveable pets and are bred for companionship. One follows me around the house like a shadow. I told SWMBO that it’s probably because I stink! Sorry about your loss.Pablo
Love that pic, too! She looks as if she’s thinking … “Yea, I’m COOL. You know it you humans!!” 🙂 :dog:
