Free internet base/rover service works great with R10/R12 base and rover
If anyone is looking to go to base and rover over the internet you may want to scan this info.
This info regards the FREE emlid NTRP Caster service. In a word, (hmmm, 2 words…) it works!
I have a Trimble R10-1 that came with no radio (European product), which has been sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I have been using an R12 as a net RTK rover on the Florida permanent reference network, and getting fair results, however, a lot of our work involves heavy canopy conditions. So, just a couple days ago I arranged for a purchase of a Pacific Crest ADL Vantage 35 radio, and planned to use it to go base R10/rover R12.
After using the Carlson listen-listen internet based base/rover with our Brx7s, I have become a believer in the internet for base/rover work. So, I went looking and came across emlid NTRIP Caster, and decided to see if I could set up the R10/R12 for internet base/rover.
Creating the Styles and the GNSS connections takes only a few minutes. The results were/are well worth it. For me, the hardest thing to figure out (emlid website did not mention) was that the R10 base (using Trimble Access) has to be setup using NTRIP v1. Also, the base setup does not use a username, but the rover does. Emlid provides the IP address, Port #, Password (different for base and rover), Mount Name, and Username for the rover. Trimble Access gives all the necessary boxes to fill in the provided info.
I know very little about setting up Trimble GNSS and very little about Trimble Access, so if I can make it work anyone can.
This afternoon I used the R10 as a rover on the Florida FPRN in order to collect a base setup point (ie rtcm0001. (I don’t know why Trimble required ??rtcm? in the point name). Then, I switched the R10 to the emlid base style I had created to output corrections to the internet, and took the R12 rover out to a control monument 1.5 miles away. Northing and Easting were out 0.015′ each from published coordinates. Also, running in thick canopy produced quick fixes.
Anyone need a fairly new Pacific Crest ADL Vantage 35?
