Existing Sokkia GRX-1 base and rover system. Upgrade or not?

I’m vested too deep in one label to change, as my pockets are not that deep.
My pockets weren’t deep enough to stay With one brand.
My first demo with Javad was maybe 5-6 yrs ago. It was a T2 on base, LS on rover, and a radio. Beast mode was just released. This gave 5 epochs per second. We were in Hot Springs, and Shawn Billings came up. I saw it give the right answer on a point in a pine thicket, that was impossible. (With anything else at the time) It took it 20 minutes. We got it a couple of times, over 2 hours. These shots were “verified”. This means that we watched it go through many iterations of that point. It runs like a flow chart. Do this, do that, go to phase 2, run for so long, jump back to phase 1, (with separation of time) and see if it gives the same answer, after some time has passed, and the satellites have moved, then it’s verified, and you store the shot.
We basicly understood “the future is here”.
It took me a few months to buy it. It’s been an interesting ride. Many changes have come. Upsampling has allowed 5 epochs per second, with 1 second radio transmissions.
I’m not promoting it for any other reason, than to improve our profession.
Have I had problems?
Yes. The t2 case is pure junk. I got caught in an afternoon Thunder shower, and it was very hot. It took the t2 from very hot, to some 70 degrees. It sucked water in. It had to go home, and get repaired. It’s been home twice now. Radio has been home twice too. It was under warranty, one of the times, but I paid once too.
I’ve got a new case (3rd one) for my t2 sitting on the shelf. The one presently on it has cracks. I’ve silicone it up. This 3rd one seems to be a different consistency. Maybe it’ll be better.
Why do I still promote it, with these past headaches?
Well, it really gets the surveys done.
I think they will fix the quality control problems. But, you can never fix a bad survey, without big trouble, most of the time.
It works.

@tom-bushelman, I looked into that system, the surveyor stimulus one for the T-LS+ with a T-3. Quite impressive, and thank you for the heads up
Nate,
Have you tried the ARDOT network? We have been using it for about a year now. It has 4 constellations available and it is really very good. It is a VRS system and I am impressed with it. I have checked the verticals on several benchmarks and it has always been within a tenth. In canopy the extra constellations seem to make a big difference with getting reliable (verifiable) fixes. If you are on a budget, you might consider just upgrading your rover to 4 constellations and using the ARDOT network. We are using the latest Geomax equipment so your results will vary.
Still waiting on a log in. Those guys at ARDOT seem to have taken up fishing in the local rivers, instead of answering their emails! (Grin)
Nate
Well, we know they’re not out inspecting bridges.
