Speaking of Portland. Yesterday I looked up a certain business in Kansas City online to get their phone number. I dialed the number listed. The guy on the other end of the line said I had the right business, but the Portland office. He tried to transfer me to KC but it didn’t work. I found a different number for the KC office that looked familiar. Got an answering machine that apparently takes all calls. It told me to leave name/number, etc. and they would return my call promptly. It was 26 hours later when “promptly” occurred.
I guess that now you know where to go for prompt and responsive service

My first trip to that business was way back in 1978 when two of the employees were Jack Webb and Dean Martin. Have had very good service over the years. Until now. Corporate model changed, apparently. Can’t even get their primary information correct online.

Bet they heard a lot about their names. I worked for Dennis Day and he sometimes traveled for business with Jim Durante. They disappointed a few hotel clerks.
The youngsters here may need to google most of those four.
. About a half a century ago I worked with a RLS who was also had a Federal Blasters License (or some such thing, he was the USFS guy who blew up whatever we needed blown up). He had a Formula that he said worked great for estimating how much Dynamite was needed to “get the job done.”
“Take you best guess, double it, and then add another 10%”
He also said that it worked on Bourbon, cost estimates, and women!

Speaking of Dean Martin, the youngsters will probably have to google the other three guys in this clip too!
Rio Bravo is the movie. 1959 is the year it came out. Angie Dickinson appears in it. I didn’t have a clue who she was when I saw this movie on GRIT TV a few weeks ago. She is the only one still alive from the five mentioned.
@holy-cow Yup! Ward Bond and Claude Akins were also significant characters in the plot (but limited screen times).
There is a great comment in the film Get Shorty, where Chili Palmer explains that “Dean Martin played the drunk in Rio Bravo, Robert Mitchum played the drunk in El Dorado, but John Wayne played John Wayne in both movies.”
Well that thread went sideways like that call from KC to Portland.
@bushaxe – agreed. most get kinda quiet at first if they don’t know you well enough to know that you don’t mean any harm but rather that you just want to learn. sadly I have realized that being bluntly honest about my ignorance in a particular subject area is about the only thing that really makes them open up about either their experience or lack there of
@loyal that guy had it figured out haha
$700 is ridiculous. It costs $400 just for me to walk out the door.
Why wouldn??t someone want to be the most expensive anything in their area?
