Do I qualify for a specialized word?
We now seem to have a negative term for almost every letter in the alphabet. F-word, R-word, N-word, etc.
Today, my phone rang and I knew immediately the call was not from anyone born and raised in my neck of the woods. I think you know what I mean. The background sounded like one of the boiler room calls wanting to save me from my current Medicare plan, purchase an extended warranty or renew my subscription to Roads and Bridges Magazine. But, no. It was an opportunity for having drafting and detail work done remotely. I honestly would not farm that work out to anyone who has not been a former employee of mine.
To be honest, I would have initially been far more receptive to the call had it been made from a spot without the boiler room background noise and if the caller had sounded more like Ol’ Hank from a neighboring State. Even Jeanie from Warrensburg or Beverly from Sapulpa would have been more welcome to explain the expertise in such work available through her office. I did have a nice, but short, chat with the caller and politely assured him I had no need of his services.
