Disposal of survey caps
Posted by Kris on October 16, 2023 at 2:05 pmJust wondering what others have done to properly dispose of survey caps. For example, a surveyor is no longer with your company or passes away.

Keep setting them. JK JK!!!
A grinder works well. That’s what we do.

Interestingly, I still have a storage tub of plastic caps for Oregon and brass tags for Arizona from many years ago…

A coffee grinder?! 🤣

Exactly!!!
Or as some seem to do, keep using them. 😉

Just ash can the plastic caps. It’s not like dumpster diving identity thieves are combing landfills for old caps. Brass and aluminum will readily recycle.

I think you need to deface them before disposal. Someone could recognize what they are and misuse them.

In Oregon you can just use the registered name of the business on the cap. The irony is the business does not need to be owned by a surveyor and there is no reporting to the state board of the surveyors/ engineers that are in responsible charge of the professional work being done for the business. One can’t make this stuff up! Jp
