Dimensions 2023
Anyone going next month?
I went for the first time last year. Lots of cool tech to be sure, but I really enjoyed the sessions. Wide range of topics with some really top-notch presenters. A sizable chunk of them were not Trimble employees, but practitioners willing to share their methods and workflows with attendees. I attended an excellent session put on by @john-hamilton on EDM calibration and data reduction.
As much as I enjoy boundary and ROW surveying, state conferences tend to be pretty light on advanced technical matters, and especially on emerging technologies and innovation, and how they are impacting our profession. Last year was an eye-opener for me, and I consider myself pretty in-the-know when it comes to tech.
I was really struck by the extent to which the heavy civil construction industry drives new tech development – especially how much they are willing to invest in new technology in order to obtain lots of savings down the road.
It was a little unsettling, though not surprising, to see how certain technologies and workflows have already been tested and adopted in other parts of the world (in some cases for many years), and then come back to work and see an Outlook invite for a meeting about “preparing for the future” concerning the same topics.
Anyways, I’ll be there, attempting to be in three different sessions at once.
