Deflection Angles?
Here is a partial of a city layout from the 1800s shoing a stone bound at an intersection of two streets. There is shown on the map what may be deflection angles relating to something, but I’m not sure what. Can anyone say what they think it means?
The stone was recovered and appears to mark the intersecting side lines. The block is marked by another stone to the east that is called as a 3 (three) feet offset. My measured distance is about a half-foot in excess of the record distance of 227.68 feet after constructing the offset.

Looks like your working in Fitchburg Ma. Those are deflection angles. As far as the distance being off unfortunately a lot of the layout bounds have been moved over the years due to sidewalk reconstruction and the construction crew putting them back close to where they were. Fitchburg also uses the metal bound boxes and I have opened them and there is no bound in them.
