December is coming
Posted by holy-cow on November 14, 2019 at 1:05 pmWas checking out the weather for where I am headed today and noticed some weather statistics that were included. In the month of the December, the record low for that location is -22 F and the record high is 71 F. People who live near large bodies of water probably cannot imagine such temperature ranges. Being near the center of a humongous land mass greatly changes the odds.

Yep, and on a more micro level, a 25 gallon heated fish tank can do wonders for leveling the temperature in a hard-to-heat room.

I don’t know how y’all stand it. Being a Floridian I couldn’t imagine not living in an area where beaches and springs are less than an hour away or worse non-existent. About 90% of the year I wear shorts and hate “layered” clothing. To me anything below 80?ø is freezing. (btw: degree symbol is alt+0176)
Going down to 50?ø Friday night gotta get firewood and test the heaters. Yes HC we have fireplaces in Fl. 😯

I use to have family down in very south Texas in the (Rio Grande) “Valley” near Mercedes. When they would visit during the holidays (rare because they were all cotton farmers) we use to get a kick out of what they considered ‘cold’. Inversely we use to spend the summers down there…and I still remember the oppressive heat and humidity…and lack of shade other than a tin roof on an irrigation pump station.
I guess it’s all relative. When we lived at 9000′ south of Leadville, CO anything above freezing meant shorts. That was long ago. And trust me, I’ve lost my acclimation for weather that cold.
Behind my truck seat is a good collection of ‘layers’ that I either peel off or put on any given day of the year. I usually drag it all out around Memorial Day, launder it and put it right back behind the seat.

You can drive down the street in Puyallup and see someone wearing shorts and a tank top and someone wearing a parka. It can be January or August, doesn’t matter…
I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will! -
PDX, above 60?ø is t-shirts and shorts weather. Above 80?ø is considered oppressively hot. Not everybody has air-conditioning by a long shot. My wife and I just got it last year.
In winter most days are in the 50?øs. Getting below freezing does happen every year, but only for a few days. Rare is the day in the teens.

50° and sunny with no breeze is shorts weather in my book. 🙂

In 2016 I worked with a guy who wore shorts in the field all year around. I never saw it happen, but he claimed that went even for snow days.
