Remember the old Pipe vs the Stone thread on the old POB Board from several years ago……. I remember reading through the field notes and thought it was interesting how they did the C?¬ positioning.
While I don’t remember that thread specifically….. Very possibly you are referring to a section subdivided, by the GLO, into 40 acre tracts by the 3 mile method. They are relatively common in OK. You would not establish the C1/4 of a 3 miler in the common manner.
These were a normal G.L.O. Township survey where they established the exteriors of the sections and the C?¬ corners and did not break sections down into 40 acre tracts. Was not a 3 Mile Method type of survey. I think Deral ??? was also posting to the POB board at that time. That thread post was probably 10 or 11 years ago.

Trimble Man was the poster of the Pipe vs Stone issue. The comments went on for weeks. There were definitely two camps of commentors.
We need to recover that entire thread for the current participants to view.
That would be nice if it is possible.
I’d be wondering whether they set the center-of-section from the original closing corner, or the magic corrected closing corner where that line intersects the township line, and what the difference might be.
The pipe could be a cut-off fence post, or a goat stake, or any number of things that aren’t survey markers. However from the OP it sounds like a marker for the C1/4, maybe it’s not and it can be ignored. Ignore it at your own peril.
Not being able to find the whole story behind a pipe that marks a corner is enough of a reason to reject it, it’s always nice to know the story and have the history, but that doesn’t amount to a reason for rejection of a monument. That it’s there, 1/2 mile from the 1/4s in each direction is a huge plus in it’s favor and a difficult piece of evidence to overcome.

I think I will disagree with my opinions in that thread if I remember them accurately.
have your opinions ripened with age?
I’m more educated, maybe not correctly educated, but more so at least.
I will let Deral (TM) know if its resurrected.
