Are you an optimistic surveyor? 2017 is here…
An optimistic surveyor says to theirself:
“There is evidence out there”.
Lets go tie it.
If this corner was set in 1840, there’s got to be some evidence of it.
Did you bring a shovel?
Keep on digging.
Let’s get the next deed.
Is there something we missed? The pessimistic surveyor says to theirself:
There is no evidence left.
Nobody would go that next mile, or 1/2 mile.
The corner’s gone.
There’s no point to tying it.
Let’s just scale it off the usgs.
Nobody will catch us.
Nobody’s perfect.
I have a deadline to meet. No time to check it.
One fixed shot is good enough.
Who will ever know?
Who cares?
The pessimist leaves a “wake of destruction”.
The optimist finds stuff, the pessimist missed. For the rest of my career, I’m going to seek to be more optimistic, and pay back, to this great profession.
Whered 2016 go?
Dunno.
But 2017 is here.
Nate
