No. But I have been asked to review our state exam.

Yes and I took the survey. It takes some time to complete.
-
Yes and it’s worth the time to complete it if you want the next version of surveyors to be tested properly
-
Yup. Did it some time ago. NCEES sent it to the best looking surveyors first.

Dad likes to torment people. He will meet a PLS and grill him on basics that he does not know but should.
Setup with a 500 foot back sight, turn to a 10 foot sideshow, double the angle, you are off by 30″. Do you redo the double?
No. 30″ is 0.015′ per hundred or 0.0015′ in 10′. Can you sight to the nearest 0.02′? Obviously not.

Now I understand why they asked me to beta test…
Your friendly, virtual neighborhood Webmaster -
Mighty humble bunch of folks in this neighborhood.

If I was not so humble I would be perfect in every way…

My single greatest asset is being able to appear humble.

True story….I was looking at new vehicles a few years back and narrowed it down to a Toyota FJ Cruiser and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I showed up at work with the Jeep one of the other surveyors said “couldn’t fit your ego in the back of the Toyota, huh?”
-
I did, I filled it out, didn’t pay it too much attention, but a lot of the questions seemed particularly pointless to the mission of making the test better.

I urge all licensed surveyors to take the time to answer the questionnaire to the best of your ability. This information is critical in the future development of NCEES tests. Yes, the questions may be out of your practice/comfort area, but please answer them with the thought of what future surveyor KSA’s should possess.

The original deadline to take the survey was last Monday, March 13th, but I see they have extended it to March 31. Read the instructions carefully. It is important that your answers reflect the knowledge, skills, and abilities a newly licensed surveyor should possess, not someone who has been licensed for many years. Is it critically important for a newly licensed surveyor to be well versed in developing a complete scope of work and the associated budget and schedule? Perhaps, or perhaps not. Just keep “minimal competency” in mind when responding, and yes, it does take some time, but it is worth it.
