and that stands for pool.
One of my favorite musicals (and a great sales pitch):

While in about the seventh grade when I was in the marching band we attended a huge parade and then joined with every other band there to play as one humongous band at half time of a college football game. Meredith Willson, of The Music Man-fame, was the guest conductor for the day. I was playing trombone and was thrilled to get to play "76 Trombones" which actually allowed us to play the melody. That is a rare treat for trombonists. Although I did not get to speak to him, we were only a few feet apart several times as he worked with us during the practice sessions prior to the game.
There's an old house a couple of blocks from my place -- it was a bed & breakfast for years, but is now just a rental house -- that always reminds me of the set houses in The Music Man, especially at night. Whenever I walk past it after dark, I start singing "Sweet Adeline" to myself.
And that stands for Poole......
at least my parents told me that....
That song rings in my head every time I play league pool. What is it about pool that attracts people living on the edge?
I attended the playoffs last year. When I entered the parking lot and saw the horde of questionable looking people outside smoking I had to think twice whether or not I wanted to go in.:-) I can fully understand why pool is associated with "trouble".
In actuality though, the people who I have come in contract are a pretty good bunch of guys and girls.
My daughter went to the Cal Band Day down in Berkeley twice in which several high school bands played at half time. Plus we got to see a Cal Bears football game twice for free. College football games are fun to go to; a lot of cheering.
Don't get me wrong, I think football is a terrible sport and should be banned. But the games are fun to watch, like watching a train wreck.
In fact most standard American sports are bad for the kids, ruining knees especially.
You can have your fill of all the food you bring yourself
