I've read a couple stories about his life and found it to be quite interesting compared to most.

First Bob Sheppard, now "The Boss".

For all the ups and downs (and there were lots of both over a forty-five year run.) he transformed the Yankees and he transformed the business of baseball.

He refused to accept mediocrity or even what others might call a high level of success. If they Yankees didn't win the World Series, the year was considered a failure, no matter how much money they made. He wanted to WIN, capital W I N.

The Yankees are the most valuable sports franchise in the world.....they passed Man United earlier this year.

From a nine million dollar investment with a team drawing under 900,000 fans a year, to a 3 billion dollar organization, with 4 million fans a year (at greatly exaggerated seat and suite prices), he re-made the Yankees into the great dynasty they were in earlier years.

There will not be another like him in the near future.
