This is the 11th memorial sign we have placed in Nebraska to honor those who were killed during the training missions of WWII. This past Memorial Day I was invited to speak at the latest sign dedication. This crash involved three B-17's that took the lives of 14 young men.

I'm just finishing a book called "Unbroken" which is about a B24 that crashed in the Pacific. In that book they touch upon the number of aviators that were killed by something other than enemy action. Its in the tens of thousands that were killed by pilot error, got lost, mechanical problems, mid-air collisions etc. The numbers are staggering.
