Windows 10 annoyance and question

I have a new laptop which came with Windows 10. (Haven't turned off all the spyware yet, will get to that when I remember/ have time).

For the most part, things seem to be reasonably good. Yesterday though, I installed a couple programs and came across an issue. The icons and menu text is WAY too small, even for someone with pristine eyesight.

I first tried changing the screen resolution. Didn't work as anticipated, the result was only part of my display being used. I came across a partial solution of being able to supposedly change the font and icon size through Windows settings. The font size changed, but the icons are still miniscule and useless.

I did some browsing on this internet thing and saw numerous folks have this issue with no real answers. Apparently, when attempting to use scaling, things became readable, but other things broke.

Has anybody else come across this, and how was it fixed? Do I have to really wait for the software folks to catch up if they ever do?

Go to control panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display.
Or, Settings > Display > Advanced display settings > Advanced sizing of text and other item

You can change the display text size globally or by item.

To change icon sizes right click your desktop click view.
Check size of icon you want to use (small, medium, large)

I did that with limited success. Text size is bigger, but icons within the programs stayed miniscule.

Thoughts appreciated, thanks
