Is it giving you a blue screen with a stop code and a countdown before it reboots??ÿ If so, keep track of the stop codes and Google them.?ÿ Viruses, bad drivers and failing hardware are the places I look when seemingly random shutdowns/reboots occur.

I had this happen on a Server version of Win10 a few months ago.?ÿ The stop codes were all over the place but with the help of the internet and a local computer shop we eventually decided it was the motherboard that was going bad.?ÿ I had a spare system available so I pulled the hard drives from the failing system and tossed them in the spare.?ÿ No more blue screens and the only change was the hardware.

When you power it back up, does it give you the message about being shutdown unexpectedly/wrong??ÿ I just about bet that the answer lies in the motherboard.?ÿ Sometimes you'll see capacitors that have swelled caps or places on the board that look like they've been overheated other times all you get are the random shutdowns.?ÿ?ÿ

The power supply could also give similar results if it is failing, overheating, or overloaded.

nope i get no error messages of any kind before or after the shut down. I think it is a driver problem and I have tried updating the most likely drivers and I thought i had it fixed, but we will see.?ÿ Usually it happens about 2 hours after I have fired up the laptop.

Ah a laptop.?ÿ The plot thickens.?ÿ Battery issues, power supplies, and power saving settings in the OS are also good places to look.

Many unexpected shutdowns are due to cpu getting too hot and/or low voltage.

Ok I have an additional fan?ÿ that plugs into the?ÿ USB port. I have seen over heating shut downs before and in that case the system notifies you that it is shutting down because of overheating.?ÿ The first thing?ÿ I did was adjust the power setting and that did not help at all. Thank you Stephan Ward

One thing I see a LOT is that people don't keep the insides of their computers, particularly laptops, clean. Dust bunnies build up inside all computers and will eventually cause heat issues. I take my computer outside on the patio and blast it from all sides with a can of compressed air until there's no dust coming out. My computers last for many, many years and I credit this regular maintenance as one of the primary reasons. Same goes for desktops.
