This house has not only a surveying theme but also a politcal theme. The house is located on the east coast. The owner passed away in the early 1800's. The pic is a bit blurred.

One hint is "You can sit on one".

Henry David Thoreau's house on Walden Pond

That looks like Thoreau's house on Walden Pond.

[Edit: No, the entrance detail is different]

Let's see. You can sit on one and it has a surveying theme.

Did the house belong to a fenceline surveyor?

Great-great-great grandpa Davenport, eh, Mr. Davenport?

I thought it was Andrew Jackson's home.

Perhaps Aaron Burr, as you could sit on a Burr.

Snoop,
That would have been a good guess, however, if you notice in the pic....there is no crime scene tape.

Hint....this house is located south of the Mason Dixon line.

Senator Daniel Davenport (Land surveyor)

Davenport Homestead - Circa 1770. The Colonial home of Daniel
Davenport, farmer, surveyor, and the first Senator from Washington
County. He served in the Revolutionary War.

Holy Cow was on the right track. However I believe the clues I left were not going to be enough to solve.

The interesting thing about the last few posts of "Who lived in this house" tested the folks here on their power of observation and their ability to research (via the web) and deduce information."Sleuthing". It also included their exprience and learning. I would have guessed Kent would have got this one, but like I said, I don't think I left very many good clues to go on. Maybe in the future, if I try one like this again, I can make this a real challenge.

I passed this Homestead a few months ago while in route to testify in Plymouth NC. I will be returning to do the same in the next few months and will stop by and take a current pic for those who may be interested.

I'm off to Virginia to do a couple of rush surveys....that's why I posted the answer.
