We are vacationing at Jekyll Island, GA this week. We left the beach because a storm was coming in and were relaxing around the pool (easier to retreat from the pool than it is from the beach). Dark clouds were rolling in and at the front edge of the dark mass I saw something moving downward. By the time I took this pic, it was much smaller than it was when I first saw it, but a cool pic nonetheless.
Wow - that is really something! The horizontal portion is very interesting...
May be seasonal. During one trip through the Bermuda Triangle area, there was at least one water spout visible every half hour or so, all day long. Those spouts were shorter and larger in diameter than your photo shows.

Yeah I thought so too. It was cone shaped when it first formed but then disappeared. A moment later you could see it trying to form again, coming down out of the cloud and another part (not joined) coming out of the water. The horizontal portion is where the two parts came together.
Those things can raise holy he!! on a smaller boat. Had a small one hit a 120' crab boat I was on in the late 70's, ripped a hatch of the boat and tore anything loose on the deck off! 'Bout had to change underwear after that one, dang lucky nobody was out on deck!+o(

Very cool...
FYI, I think I recognize where you took that picture, we use to go to Jekyll 1-2 times a year....
