I recently purchased an old surveying level from the local antique dealer and was wondering if anyone can help me find out when it was manufactured and what the approximate value would be.

The instrument is a Bostrom-Brady Manufacturing Co. Model 4 level, serial number 59, with the original wooden box w/ plumb-bob. It came with the wooden tripod, which looks like they have had one leg replaced with a leg from a different but like tripod.

I paid $100 for the set, which it is worth it to me, just for the antique surveying feel in my office.

Thanks in advance to those that can help.

Thanks Jared. I came across both when I was trying to research the manufacturing date on-line, but neither answered my questions.

Ebay has a few that are similar, ranging from $55 to $850. There are 2 listed on Ebay with the same serial number (47). One of the sellers claims the serial number is the year of manufacturing, but that just doesn't make sense to me.

Had to look into the back corner of my closet on the bottom row to pull out mine.

It is a Model No 4, Serial No IC56

I've learned more from Jered's post than I have know about it in over 30yrs.

:good:
