On average, most people over there are lucky to make $3 per day.

The president of the local chapter of AIA told me that 80% of architectural drafting
work is being done overseas.
An Indian from my Christian church used to scan medical records in some remote part
of India. He said he would be glad to do my digitizing. They work cheap. However, do
not pay them until they get it right.
This is no great revelation -- surveying, development, and construction are slow in the US.
There are many good PLS who will do your drafting work at reasonable prices with great
efficiency and little training.
I recently learned that my $5 here in America will only buy .8 lbs of coffee, where as in India, you will get nearly twice that amount. Does that mean their $3/hr is equal to our $6/hr? Still pretty low hourly rates.
Unleaded fuel in my area is $4.08/gal. divided by $1.30/gal in India = 3.1 x $3/hr = $9.30/hr.
If it's alarming that some of your competitors may undercut you buy taking advantage of the $3/hr. rates, you can at least find some comfort in the fact that our leaders at the highest level are working hard to establish a new order that will level the playing field to allow you to compete in a modern global market....enjoy your rates now.
