We went to the Florida Keys last week and had a good time. Their summer long drought was broken by our arrival in as much as it started raining the first morning we woke up in Marathon and then was monsoon/rain/downpour/drizzle/cloudy every day with a few peeks at the sun every now and then.
We walked around Key West in the rain and drizzle, took an open air boat ride through the Everglades in a downpour, and went on a reef snorkeling tour in 6' waves. It was hard to predict when the storms would hit. The day before we left was sunny and pretty. All in all, we enjoyed it. Here's a few pictures.
Restaurant on Marathon. Thatched roof, no walls, dockside,
This is the backside of it.
Here's the crew.
We had to go to this place at least just to say we did. The food was good.
On the menu, it's called 'Cheeseburger in Paradise'.
This is not the southern most point.
That is. (Developed that is.)
View from the Seven Mile Bridge (I think)
I've already posted this one. The best place we ate down there. Another thatched-roof-no-wall-dock-side kind of place. I think it was at the north end of Seven Mile Bridge.
View from where we ate. The lower level is a dining area around a pool. The ocean and Seven Mile Bridge is in the background.
Surveyor thing. The wife expects it. We took the back way through Florida on the way back home for some scenery. The roads were going either north/south or east/west with 90 degree curves. I thought "Hmmm, PLSS". I stopped where the two tangents intersected on a side road and found this. It's at N 26*27'33.06" W 81*07'28.4" on Google Earth and is the intersection of county roads #833 and #846. Anyone claim this handiwork? I think the number on it is 3114.
Well anyway, that is some of the pics of the time off. I had a good time but as always, there's no place like home.
Take care,
Phillip
Great pictures, Phillip.
What does that boy's t-shirt say?
Don
Parker's shirt says something like "This shirt doesn't say anything. You're just wasting your time reading what's on this shirt...etc." I call it his smart-alec shirt.
