USC the Number One preseason favorite fell to 7-6 for the year with a 21-7 loss in the Sun Bowl to Georgia Tech.

I do not feel sorry for Lane Kiffin who talks a good game but can apparently not coach one. Heck he embarassed the University by showing up 1 hour late with the team for a promo dinner. They walked in as Georgia Tech walked out. That probably gave GT all the incentive they needed for the win.

I do feel sorry for Silas Redd, who left Penn Sate under the NCAA sanction option to improve his NFL prospects on a National Championship team. That did not work out because Lane Kiffin had no idea what to do with a quality running back. Kiffin stuck to his goal of making his quarterback look good for a Heisman Trophy.

For the year Redd had 167 carries for 905 yards, a 5.4 yards per carry average. Redd had only 3 100+ yard games (all wins) and had very few carries in several of the losses. Had Redd been used properly he could have run for 1800-2000 yards and 18 instead of 9 touchdowns. Just a few of those extra touchdowns could have turned at least 3 of the losses into wins. With 10 wins there would be little talk about firing Kiffin.

USC's only touchdown yesterday, came on a Redd run after a pass reception. He also had 88 yards on 17 carries, for a 5.2 yard average.

Goodbye Lane, you reap as you sow.

Personally, I think USC should be forced to employ Kiffin as the head coach for another 5 years or so.
