This past winter my wife decorated the front door with a natural material wreath. Two weeks ago we noticed finches had built a nest on the wreath. We have been avoiding using the front door as much as possible, because the finches are sitting on at least two eggs. So this morning we find a newborn fawn parked under a picnic table bench about 30' from our back door. My wife heard it last night but could see nothing then. We do not expect momma doe to come back until evening, so if necessary we will carefully use the front door. he object is to not open the door too fast so momma finch can fly to the rain gutter or cable TV feed line. Opening it too fast and she may be flying around inside the house.?ÿ?ÿ

This is not the first deer born in our yard, two years ago we had a doe drop one near a holly tree, and we got to see that one take it's first wobbly steps. A few times she left it behind a log near the holly tree and one at least one occasion, a second doe also left her fawn right next to it. They were not that close to the house and we even managed to mow most of the yard without disturbing them.?ÿ

Today will be interesting, because the lawn is overdue for a cutting.

To date we have seen all sorts of wildlife on our in town lot, except a bear. Foxes, coyotes, turkey, ducks, hawks, plus all the common ones. One day a fox crossed the yard walking under, between the front and rear legs of a deer and neither one seemed to think it was unordinary.?ÿThe mallard ducks would land in the yard and waddle over to the neighbors feed station, since gone, and return later for takeoff room.

There are certainly worse ways to be trapped in your house. And the fawn is a good excuse to put off mowing.

Just saw momma walk away with the fawn at 10:40 EDT. Teeny little thing.

Life goes on.

News story this morning was a black bear in Newton, MA (home of the Fig Newton cookie) just outside of Boston.

Previous owner had chickens, not sure how the neighborhood cats interacted with them.

Now we have two large fuzzy cats patrolling our yard every day. They must've gotten in a scuffle one day because we found tufts of fur scattered about then saw them coexisting peacefully on a bench under the big redwood tree in the front yard.

Wildlife is obnoxious squirrels, they sit on a branch just out of reach chattering at me.

My friend Dan said one threw an acorn at his wife, that was then end of that squirrel, Dan got him with a pellet gun.

One of the cats killed the mouse, found it dead in the back one day.

Rite of spring around our house is not using the kitchen door for a while because the Bewick's wren made its nest in the creel hanging next to it.?ÿ

A couple of weeks ago there were three very healthy looking deer at the front porch nibbling on the roses. But the worst wildlife that we have to deal with are hummingbirds, they are aggressive and intimidating.?ÿ

When my father first retired my parents bought a big Victorian house in a small town in southern Virginia and restored it.?ÿ There was a mole problem, so my dad put out some poison that, apparently, the?ÿsquirrels developed a taste for as well.?ÿ For a while anytime the wind picked up it rained decomposing squirrel carcasses from the big Willow Oaks in the neighborhood.?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ

Wife came home Wednesday evening at 6:30 and said mama was in the side yard. At 7:30 mama and baby leisurely crossed the back yard.

"Wildlife is obnoxious squirrels, they sit on a branch just out of reach chattering at me."

Them damn squirrels cost me a fortune in roof repairs. I've finally taken measures into my own hands, with SWMBO permission of course, and the assistance of a Gamo break barrel pellet gun w/scope. Prior to that I would just trap and release them elsewhere per SWMBO instructions. I feel bad shooting them but I can't afford to cohabitate with them. They must have some sort of communication because after shooting several they have considered this place off limits. Thank you Mother Nature?ÿ ??ÿ

BTW: Raccoons eat the dead ones.?ÿ?ÿ
