You are old. That Ramada has already been tore down. According to grandpa. 😉

Could be true. That was September 1977, nearly forty years ago. Spent a month there over the next four days.

Sounds like an experience I had in Quartzite, AZ, in 1990.
I tell people that I spent a month there one week and I was only there 3 days.

I had a similar experience in Winslow in the late '80s. Unlike the song, there was no "girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford..." that slowed down to take a look at me...My only companion was an overheated '74 Suburban...joined eventually by a Navajo County Deputy that wanted my truck "off the road" or he would have it towed.
I eventually found someone that knew what water was (and had some to spare) and was able to nurse the old shivvy down the road.
I do remember the high-light of that trip was a beer joint on the strip in Gallup. We all stood outside in the warm evening air and jeered the local police as they stuffed inebriated indigenous citizens into their vans. And for the record it was NOT me that chunked an empty beer bottle at the riot wagon...and nailed it top dead center. (It was a shot worthy of the Olympics, btw...;)).
