I think my 48GX is in danger of going under. My low battery alert stays on even though I've changed out the batteries a couple of times. I haven't looked at any calculators in the past 25 years so I'm ignorant of what's available. I have a memory expansion card and a TDS Cogo card in my 48. Is there anything that would accept these cards? I don't use the Cogo card very much at all so maybe not a huge deal to lose it. Any recommendations? HP only of course. Thanks in advance.

Your memory card could be the power draining culprit and TDS was always a big battery drain itself.

Check the card as it may be of the type that requires an onboard battery power cell. When that battery goes, it gets power from the HP48GX.

There are many to be found on EBay as a replacement.

If your HP48 dies on you contact me. I have one that is over 20 years old, but rarely used. I'd like to rape you on the purchase price, but I'll give you a little kiss. About all it's ever been used for is to add, subtract and divide. It has a survey module in it that I've not used in 20 years.

I've also got an HP-48 that looks nearly new.?ÿ It also has the TDS card in it.?ÿ Happy to sell it at a reasonable price.

What A Harris said about the card drawing power from the 48 is also true.

I wasn't aware of the issues with TDS. I tried taking out the memory card first, but still had my low battery signal. Took out the Cogo card and now that signal is gone. I guess I might be able to squeeze some more life out of this thing. It feels a lot lighter too! I have had my cards from day one so never used it without them inside.

Thanks very much to all of you. If my 48 does break down I now know where to look.

Its a good idea to remove expansion cards from time to time. Ive gotten 2 perfectly good 48s from the trash that only needed the cards pulled and reinserted.
