The largest free-flying American flag in the world is now flying over the George Washington Bridge in remembrance of 9-11.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey unfurled the flag under the upper arch of the bridge’s New Jersey tower. The flag is 90 feet long by 60 feet wide, with stripes measuring about five feet wide and stars about four feet in diameter. It weighs about 450 pounds.
The flag was raised last week for Labor Day, and it also flies on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day.
I started reading the RPLS.com board about this same time, 2001 and remember reading the first accounts of the surveyors that were there......
I am 4000 miles away and remember how I felt; reading those stories let me see what it was really like, just a few blocks away.
Thank you and all of the other east coast posters for your insight.
