If you are gobsmacked Part 2 is on utube....... ?????ÿ
Quite an undertaking. I was surprised to see train style wheels on the car.?ÿ Just finding/making those for the vehicles would be rare.?ÿ RR inspection and maintenance trucks usually use their rubber tires and small guide wheels.
Permission could not be had except that the RR officials apparently wanted the ride. I didn't see the driver in communication with the control center, which I thought would be an absolute must.
Back in my Cali days I got to know some guys through a neighbor friend who had a couple of Cushman 'Speeder' self propelled rail cars that they would take out to abandoned rail lines and explore them. I went along a couple times and just had the time of my life. There are hundreds of miles of abandoned rail lines all over the state and many in good enough condition to ride for dozens of miles through the country side. We were flying along one track line once used for logging and came around a corner just in time to see a section of the rail was missing and had to bail off that thing going about 20 mph just before it derailed, at which point I realized why they brought me along, to help lift the car back on the tracks, with one slightly bent axle. What a hoot that was. I should post a picture or two.?ÿ
Can't travel rails without the appropriate horn.?ÿ
