Just got back from a couple days in Downtown Las Vegas. It seems that whenever my friends from back home go to Sin City I get the opportunity to go say "Hey" - since it's only 90 minutes away (thanks to the new bridge). We usually stay 1 night, maybe 2.

This group of friends always stays downtown and enjoys the 'smallness' of Fremont St. So do I and much prefer it over all the hecticness of The Strip. There are 3 seperate outside venues for live music, with all the glitz & dancing and people watching you ever want to do. Just walk around & enjoy it all - its 'free'... 😛

The casinos are smaller and closer together. The gaming seems a bit more user friendly too, and the food is always terrific.

As a bonus they were treated to a nice rainstorm. They said it was the first time it ever rained on them (in 25 plus yrs). It came down pretty good for about 45 minutes, as temps went from 100 or so to about 75 - then back up shortly thereafter. They may get some this afternoon & tomorrow too.

Are the streets littered with adult posters/adds?

That was one thing I could not handle when I visited with my now ex-wife.....the hispanic families wagging that filth in our faces. I was about 10 minutes from rolling some heads. Luckily we were done walking the streets about that time.

Nothing like filth accosting your pregnant wife. JRL

None of that this trip. I think the hookers union won't allow that filthy nonsense. All those card flippers work the strip.

But the covered dome of Fremont is really set up good. Go 2 blocks away....

I'm with you Wayne. I prefer the more laid back attitude at Fremont Street over the strip. Kind of reminds me of Laughlin...I miss the days of sitting at a machine having a drink and checking out the river life out the window.

And now that I think about it...I don't recall the people passing out cards on the corner downtown like they do at the strip.

Concur Ric. Speaking of Laughlin (concur also), the Bullhead River Regatta is next weekend. Tons of fun, lots of sun, and smiling skin-n-bikinis galore.

We'll be there. Staying at the River Palms. Extra room on my extra tube for an extra cooler....cheers :drink:

Oh yea, fellow beerleggers and ex-rpls'ers, Laughlin is another "The Other Las Vegas" that is well worth the look.

I would MUCH rather stay in Downtown LV than on the strip, anyday!! They were trying to make it more "family friendly" with the upgrades/changes and they kicked out the riff raff that were passing out that trashy crap.

But...I would MUCH MUCH rather stay in Laughlin, ANYDAY, rather than Vegas. You can walk to everything, people are friendlier, and rooms are cheaper!! Dang it now I wanna go... 😛

Is that the one with the light show at night? That was really something.

I passed through Reno three times last year during the day. Just another town, if your not participating in the fun.
