After four or five days in the ice-box Norman finally reached 32 degrees around 1:30 pm. I sat drinking coffee all morning waiting for the symphony to begin. I love it. It's the only good thing about an ice storm.
Around 10 am the sun poked his shining face out after a four day long hiatus. Although it was only about 20 degrees, I knew the radiant energy was going to do the trick. A few melted water drops soon began jumping off the trees and splattering themselves on whatever was beneath. Not long after that small bits of ice started their free-fall.
Finally it was a grand symphony of ice crashing with limbs and power lines shaking and dashing their encrusted coma to the ground. The entire Opus lasted an hour or two. If it were up to me, it would have received a standing ovation.
Yeah, I get excited about weird things...
I would have taken that. The last couple of days here were fraught with thunder and lightening replete with flood warnings. The temps fell out big time last night. The clouds and rain are all gone. Wish I would have paid attention to the weather yesterday. I didn't have my heaters on since it had been in near-mid 70s. Woke up this morning around 0500 and it was just barely 60 in the house.
If the rain storms of the last couple of days met up with todays cold and wind, we would be in a world hurt. Suits me fine for a Christmas day tomorrow.
It began around 1:30 p.m. here. I was out on a county road with few such opportunities compared to being in town. Suddenly, I heard dull cymbal crashes. It was ice that had been coating metal gates made of roughly 2-1/2" pipes. The ice from the top pipe hit the next pipe, then all of that hit the third, then the fourth and so forth. The big problem was keeping the instrument level as the road thawed under the feet. Once we completed our work and drove into town to get a treat before heading homeward we were forced to detour onto a side street due to power line work. Everything was fine until CRASH!!!!! Either just ice or ice plus a smallish limb came crashing down onto the top of the pickup cab. That got our attention for sure.
Forgive me for my ignorance, and hangover, but why did you put Norman in the ice box? 😉
Grinning from ear to ear
Excellent question.
Now, I must confess that I am prone to doing really silly things on occasion when I get in just the right mood. Probably about 15 years ago I stopped at the post office as I drove through a small town named Leroy. There was only the clerk and one local lady in the place. I strolled up to the counter and asked the clerk, "Is this Leroy's post office?" She said, "Yes, it is." So, I said, "Is he here?. I'd like to meet him."
that's funny...
..reminds me of a few things we use to do at my aunt's house; she had a phone that wasn't a party line. And it was also before caller ID.
It involved "Pop in a bottle" and sometimes "Prince Albert in a can"...
anyway..you guys that were born before color tv know what I'm talking about. 😉
Now its a Sloppy Mess
Time to slip/slide around. Ice is gone. Water is still in the top 1/2 inch of the soil. Planning to stay on town jobs today and avoid working along sloppy county roads. Getting sprayed by passing vehicles does not help my demeanor.
Now its a Sloppy Mess
The freeze-thaw has taken care of everything except the topsoil around here. As soon as the sun hits it, it turns to goose-crap....watch where you park the truck!
