The purported owner and founder (but, that's under dispute) of Facebook was quoted as saying that he couldn't understand why anyone would publish all their personal information on the Internet such as his site. I don't have the direct quote, but as I recall it was quite a bit more condensing than my words.

I have used Facebook to reject potential tenants and many others I know of use it to help check out potential employees. Newsweek magazine lists ten reasons why you shouldn't be on Facebook.

Interesting...

That is why all of my Facebook stuff is PRIVATE. I don't even use my last name on there. No way!! Anyone searching for me couldn't just "find" me that easy. I did that on purpose. 🙂

So many of my friends and family didn't realize just how public their information was until I pointed it out to them. Not a lot of people realize to make things very private and tight one has to take about an hour and go into each setting, etc...and customize it to that. And anytime Facebook has an update it is always a good idea to go re-check your settings. Sometimes when they do their "updates" they set all of your "private" stuff back to public.

There are good sides to Facebook as well. I enjoy keeping up with my best friends and family this way, sharing pics, chatting, etc... Anything I have on my Facebook I don't care if they see or read; I don't have anything to hide from them.

I don't associate with any social networking crap - especially myspace.crap
And, no one is important enough to warrant tweeting where and what they are doing all day long. If you are that important, then you damm sure be doing what makes you so important other than telling others about it.
Guess my point is: I don't need 10 reasons.

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with your friends & family.
But like anything else useful in this world, you have to be smart.
You have to think.

I still like the one where the Insurance company went to the facebook account of someone who was on total disability and saw pictures of her climbing mountains. They promptly cut off her benefits.
