Here is the mural photo that Wendell went nuts over, guys. I thought you might like it. It's in Maryland at the rest stop that is also the First Colonial house.
Enjoy!

That is a pretty nice mural. I wonder if the surveyors are supposed to be Andrew Ellicott and Benjamin Banneker.

The old photos of surveyors often depict surveyors in dress clothes next to a transit and it actually looks pretty cool.

However, a modern photo of the average surveyor in a tux next to a robotic total station just don't cut the mustard.

There is a certain charm to the older photos...

yes, kent. you are correct. ironic though, that this was a dc map in the background. ellicott was contracted by pierre l'enfant to stake dc. he used banneker as his assistant, in my opinion, there couldn't have been a better party. they both lived in oella, md.,part of which is now called ellicott city. if you're ever in md. we'll meet you there for a few pints

A few times in the 70's in mid winter I waded water to find some corners and be able to hack and blaze boundaries while my two helpers got a fire started.

When I got back to their fire I sent them the other direction to do the same on dry ground. I dried my clothes and thawed myself by the fire before finishing the day.

Bees...UGH! The hazards you guys go through on the job is just crazy! I personally think you should make a heck of a lot more $$ for doing what you do; dodging cars, bears, snakes, critters, poison oak, spouses, etc... 😛 Anyone that can do all that AND excel at math should be making $100,000 MINIMUM. But that's just my personal opinion. 🙂

That old picture with the girl...hilarious!! It's interesting to see what people wore (or didn't wear) back in the old days.

Hey, if ya gotta dry off, ya gotta dry off!! It isn't like you were out there waving your...well you know...at them and saying LOOK! :-O
