I am using SurvCE 2.61. SurvCE is running painfully slow on my data collector. It used to run like a race horse. Example... when I store a point with GPS it takes about 10 seconds for it to actually store it. And even in total station mode when I tell it occupy and backsight it takes like 30 seconds for the next screen to pop up. Used to be like blink of an eye fast. It is something with SURVCE. I do not wish to update to a later version as the last time I did that my robot no longer worked. It wont work with anything higher than 2.61. And yes I tried 2.62 and no go. Again data collector wont work with any other versions of SURVCE. All of my other software rocks on it including TOPSURV. I just need to make SURVCE speed up again. Any ideas?

How many jobs do you have on the dc? Maybe you need to delete some non-active.
Also, maybe you could look at your memory allocation and adjust it accordingly.

I have a bunch of jobs. I dont want to delete any of them. I do not see a way to adjust memory allocations. I used to be able to adjust it years ago with an older version of windows CE. I dont think you can with WINDOWS MOBILE 6.5

You didn't mention what type of data collector, but will it support extra memory? Maybe you can insert an 8GB CF card and move the jobs onto that rather than 'delete' them. Maybe keep the one you're working in on the internal drive. Or try something along those lines to see if it makes it go any faster.

Have you tried a hard "reboot"? Sometimes RAM gets held and not released when you open/close programs and files, and a reboot can clear that up. Then there is the question raised above about how many jobs you have stored. Can you see how much clear harddrive space you have left on the DC? Another question would be, how many points are in the jobs you are working with? Is there a lot of data attached like linework, CAD, photos, etc?

Thank you for all of the replies everyone. Turns out I have too many jobs in one subdirectory. I created a new subdirectory named JOBS2 and it is now fast again. If I need one of the old jobs Ill just copy it to the JOBS2 directory. When JOBS2 gets too big I guess Ill have to make a JOBS3 directory. I wish Carlson would have had enough insight to figure out a way of doing this from a programming standpoint so that users wouldnt have the their data collectors acting like snails once they get a bunch of jobs on them. Everything else about SurvCE is great and I will continue to use it.
