> Okay, not just my Cardinals...Wendell says there's "other" touristy stuff to do there to so...besides the Arch, what do you guys recommend? And can anyone tell me which neighborhoods are OK to stay in that are not in slumville and not an hours drive to downtown?? I am looking at either Forest Park or Westport, but Westport seems to be a bit of a trek to downtown. It wouldn't be too bad freeway wise, but I don't know anything about St. Louis freeways, traffic, roads, tolls, metrolink, etc...

The ABSOLUTE best advice I can give on St. Louis is to NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES cross the Mississippi into East St. Louis. Other than that I draw a blank.B-)
A friend and I passed through on a post-college-graduation trip way back in the late '80s. Part of the reason for stopping was to visit a fellow student. He took us to a frozen custard place--it was excellent if you like frozen treats. I no longer remember which one. I assume it was a Ted Drewe's.
I also remember that the gift shop under the Arch had an excellent selection of pioneer and exploration-related books. My dad was interested in pioneer women's perspectives and I was able to pick up several for him.
Ameghetti's on the Hill and Ted Drewe's for frozen custard, for sure.
The zoo is great - free admission and $12.00 to park, unless you can find
a spot on the street. Watch out for the penguins, my wife found
out accidentally that they bite.
I know!! I know!! Drive a little bit farther East to Atlanta and watch a REAL baseball team!!! 😛 😀 :-O B-) 😉
