good article. I suspect the location most of these new centers is because of energy cost, you are blessed with clear skies for solar.

Energy cost and location to transmission lines, cooling costs (high desert, evaporative cooling with cool nights is less costly than other options), tax breaks, labor pool are the primary considerations locally. These data centers aren't popular with all, lots of complaining on local facebook groups almost 10 years later, mostly due to low total numbers of employees, tax breaks and rising cost of housing, but IMO it has and will continue to help our local town, the five sawmills that were here when I was in high school are all gone, the data centers are about only new prime employment to come around in many years. The secondary spin off is a big impact too, still we have primarily become a bedroom community for other local towns with even higher cost of housing and of course a lot more employers.

400 permanent jobs in a town the size of Prineville (pop. ~10,000) is quite a lot.?ÿ?ÿ
