Entered a courthouse a couple of days ago where the entry lobby is also the space with the windows from the County Treasurer's Office where people spend a lot of money on various taxes and license plates.?ÿ There is only one man standing at a window.?ÿ Across the large lobby is a padded bench.?ÿ On the bench was a little girl who appeared to be three years-old or possibly younger.?ÿ She looked like a little angel sitting there holding an eight-page pamphlet providing information about Covid.?ÿ She was holding the pamphlet, quietly studying a page and then slowly turning to the next page.?ÿ It was upside down, but she wasn't the least bit concerned about that.
By the time my youngest daughter was that age I was a single father raising three daughters fulltime, except for occasional weekends when they went to visit their mother 85 miles away.?ÿ She accompanied me on many trips, including those to courthouses, realtors, title offices, client visits, etc.?ÿ That could have her sitting there 35 years ago.?ÿ She knew everywhere there were employees who kept a stash of little candies on hand for such visitors.?ÿ She knew not to ask, but, she never would have needed to as they would reach for the candy as soon as they saw her coming.?ÿ Some would call out to her to come and get some candy even though I didn't need to go into that office.
Unfortunately, these days someone would report you if you offered a little girl candy.?ÿ Times have changed.
30+ years ago I coached my son's Under 6 soccer team.?ÿ They were all boys except two little girls.?ÿ One of the practice fields we had was at an elementary school and had no toilet facilities.?ÿ No problem for the little boys, just go behind the nearest tree.?ÿ One day one of the girls had to go so I walked to the edge of the woods while she went.?ÿ When my wife found out about that she almost went ballistic.?ÿ "You could have been charged with molesting that little girl."?ÿ I don't (or at least didn't) think that way but after that I made sure there was at least one female adult any time we practiced at that field.
