I'm a long ways from Mississippi, but Mississippi is on my mind tonight. Lilacs are blooming here on the dry side of the mountains in Central Washington, that fragrance is in the air, and that means the bass are spawning in the lakes and rivers here. Just heard this version of Jesse Winchester's great tune, as sung by Lucinda Williams. It's worth a share.

It's probably my connection to the interweb, but the sound quality on that link was not great. I did catch Lucinda's show in Austin a few months ago and thought it was the best of hers I'd seen to date. The format was just her and Jim Pettibone on stage. Among other things, they managed to take "Essence" to a higher high than I thought the song had, and with just the two of them on stage.
If you like Lucinda Williams
I highly recommend this lady:
She's been a favorite of mine for 40 years.
