The impression I get here is that you work for one of these companies that doesn't want to train their people.
Since we're speaking in generalizations, we get paid the big bucks because we took the time and initiative to invest in ourselves and not the other way around.
Who is this 'we'??ÿ The higher-ups at your company?
Anyway, I don't know what the problem is.?ÿ You made a comment about not controlling the purse strings, so I can only assume you're not getting the resources you need to do your job which is almost guaranteed to make the people below have a harder time.?ÿ It also sounds like maybe the guy isn't set up for success, or at least feels that way.?ÿ You say you tell people to tell you what they need, but sometimes people don't know what they don't know which makes that request pointless.?ÿ Or maybe the guy just has a trash attitude and it would be trash anywhere he worked.
