I am considering getting a power conditioner and trying to decide which way to go: whole house or a unit that plugs into an outlet.

What I feel I need this for is a large A/C window unit, about 13,000 BTU.

During the last heat wave (and a summer or two ago during another raging heat wave), it appears that I am experiencing brown outs during the hottest times which, in turn, is causing a heavier load on the a/c unit (reduced voltage) and blowing the dedicated circuit breaker. I wound up having to replace the circuit breaker a summer or two ago as it just wore out.

During non peak usage, the a/c unit works great, or at least has. I am afraid I will fry this a/c and it would be a nasty job to replace it.

Suggestions welcome.

I doubt you want to $pend the money for a power conditioner that will $upply the large demand$ of an air conditioner. Is there perhaps a device that will trip off the power when an undervoltage brownout occurs, instead of overworking the air conditioner compressor until it trips the overload breaker?

From what I've seen so far, yes, power conditioners that would handle an a/c unit get expensive very fast. The catch is that I would like the a/c to remain functional, even during brown outs. This house can get very hot very quickly.

I am also having thoughts of an awning to keep the direct sun off the a/c and window area could help, but not sure that would cure what ails the a/c....

Most ac units have a surge protector plug on their power cord.
The big thing around here is the backup generator system, powered from everything from natural gas to diesel or just simply gasoline.
That and the automatic switch between grid electricity and generator electricity makes the installation take a huge bite out of your pocketbook.
There are more and more people adding a solar array to handle that problem around here and selling the surplus back to the co-op and it is all a huge write-off come incometax day.
My electricity has been off 4times this month from 1hr to 4hr. Last event was about 7:30AM today about 15min after the crew left and I sat down to do some platworks............grrrrrr

Ween yourself from the a/c. You're getting spoiled! The sun is warm, the grass is green 🙂

After I moved to MD, over 20 years ago, I promptly started whining about the summer heat. I was told that I would acclimate. I hate the heat and humidity worse now, how's that for acclimating?

Tried to find a Youtube video of the Beatles' The Sun King, for you, but there's really nothing but cover versions available. 😀

That is a good song. I was trained by the radio stations to enjoy "She Came in through the bathroom window" and "Meant Mr Mustard along with "Sun King".
