Not talking 3d scanners...
Does anybody use these portable scanners. Looking at a Majic Wand by VuPoint, not sold on the idea yet. Everytime I go into a courthouse I am always 2 quarters short of what i need or have to go around the world to get someone to make break a bill.

Reviews, thoughts? They are around 100 bucks from what i have seen. Notice where I am from; if i had one of these I would probably be labeled as a techno guy.....

I have a similar scanner. It works okay and fits nicely in a laptop bag pocket. The biggest problem is feeding small sheets of paper through it. However, we didn't pay $100. I think we paid less, like maybe $60-$70. You need to go to Newegg and take a look at what they have and read some of the reviews. Here is a link:

The lease hounds around here use the ones attached to a laptop with a usb wire and pass it over the document and presto a pdf or other designated file.

I have been testing my Nikon AW100 camera and it will do a good job. It takes a few steps to download the jpeg and convert to pdf.

A lot of what I have been doing researching early Lawton involves peoples personal photo collections, pictures from books in the library geneology section and other things that don't always lend themselves to a flat bed scanner.

I purchased the VuPoint-Magic Wand Pro. There are two models and this one had a wider format to capture a full 8.5x11 with one pass. Takes a little time to get used to it, with different paper stocks and how to keep it straight while you scan across the page.

I'm very happy with it and it came with everything including case, usb cable, 3gig memory card and an adapter for the computer if you want to transfer via the card directly. I don't because I don't want any wear and tear on the very tiny contact points in the minature card. I can

wait a little bit if I've done 50 or more scans. The computer sees it as another drive so it's a simple drag and drop.

Here is a free hand image taken today on some very wrinkled plans in someone elses office. I just needed the name on one of the buildings.

This was on the low res setting. Simple button on the unit to switch from low to high res with a single button push.

I usually take a 12" ruler with me and use it as a guide and I get really good straight scans.

And that, my friend, is Deral's two cents.

The scanner..

I give it a thumbs up on battery usage and portability.

I have one and really like it. I can scan stuff off plans or old plats and give them back to the client right then, instead of having to take it to the repro shop. I also scanned my marine charts, and made a little book that shows just the intracoastal waterway, and other areas I like to fish. My wife laminated them for me, and I can look at just the area I want, instead of folding the chart four times.

See Dublin, I told you that thing was cool!!
These young kids today, you can't tell them a dang thing!! I keep trying to tell him to change his sign-on ID because Dublin is in Ireland and not Mississippi, but NOOOOOOOOOOO!there's just no teaching him anything.
Only way I get even with him is that he has to sit down wind of me in the office, and I DO love them pickled eggs!! +o(

I have the same scanner that Deral has, and I really like it. I can scan information from clients in the field, and I also use it for copies of sections of plats at the courthouse. It's much easier than trying to copy portions of a plat on the copier.

It is well worth the $100 I spent on it. It stays in the laptop bag, so I have it with me whenever I am in the field. I have also used it to scan portions of construction plans from the job trailer, and then took them to the truck and printed them out.

Very handy
