I am thinking about getting a paper shredder for home use. I think the one we used to have at the company I worked for cost several hundred dollars. They had one for each office but that is probably more “industrial” than I need. I want to shred credit card statements, mail offerings with too much personal information on them etc.
Does anyone have any personal experience and/or recommendations?

Most of the cheaper models last about 1-2 years with normal to heavy use. Spend more and they last somewhat longer, and it depends on total use and number of sheets you shred at once.
I believe your state is selling surplus government shredders at a deep discount 😀
Years ago (10?) I bought a Fellowes PS80C-2 for about $200.00. It's sort of a mid-range unit, somewhere between home industrial grades. It's worked well for my small office.
Tax time is when it gets the heaviest use, and I have to be careful not to overwork it. It'll handle up to 5 sheets at a time, though I usually keep it down to 2 or 3. If I run it continuously for more than about 5 minutes, it'll overheat and shut off. Once it cools down its fine again.
The PS80C-2 model designation appears to be retired.

:good: That's the same one I use. Even the guys at MIT cannot write a computer program to put the pieces back together for this one. Plus it heats the house, when it snows two nights in a row in April :pissed:
We use a couple of gerbils at home. I challenge anyone to put those pieces of paper back together.
However, you do need to be careful that they don’t turn into 10 or 20 gerbils. 😉

Purchased the Staples Model SPL EXCAA 10sheet cross shredder a couple of years and it is still strong as ever for $70±.
It has been replaced with some other model now.

I have an Infoguard S120D, I think I got this at one of the major office supply chains, I have had a number of years and heavy use in my small office. Capacity is 12 sheets, also eats CD's and credit cards.

Best one I ever had (and still have) is the Init NT-PS10CC.
Takes 10 sheets at a time, shreds credit cards and CDs!
I remember buying it at Best Buy and I think it was only $88(?).
Convenient handle for lifting the upper part off.
This has been...
One of the funniest threads I've read!!! :woot: And... I sure needed it after my week!! Thanks, guys. :-$ B-)
Here's what I use for a paper shredder... 😀
Got it for $39.99 from Amazon. Thanks for the recommendation.
