He's just hungry and looking for a snack before he hibernates for winter...harmless bear!! 😉

I believe that that's a Black Bear. Herbivore. Not really a threat unless cornered.
Black Bears are actually ominvores, they will eat meat.
Not saying he needed killin' though.
If Mrs. File thought that bear needed killin', she would have had it lying dead on the garage floor when I came home Thursday night.
Instead- she banged some pans and shoo-ed it away when she thought it got too close to her chickens.

The big pen with the silver tarp is the hog pen for the 4 H hogs- they've been in the freezer since the 1st week in September. The bear might have been smelling some feed rotting aound the feeder or something.
The short wire pen on the left is part of the chicken run.
