NC you pay a disposal fee added to about anything such as TVs, tires, oil, batteries, washers, dryers, cars, HVAC, and the list goes on. It is either paid at time of purchase or at disposal.
Landfills no longer place TVs, fridge, washers, dryers, computers, batteries, and list goes on. All are recycled in some fashion.
In larger cities a few have garbage sorting facilities for recyclables. Jobs pay more than minimum wage.
That's why they invented ditches.

I put mine out with the trash. The pickers left it there but the garbage truck took it. I assume they know what they are doing. So, you could bring them to my place and drop them off. Might be cheaper to just pay the $65 bucks though...
