No- we got things worked out. I traded my escape to the Bridge inspector- I have a 2015 1/2T extended cab GMC Sierra- 4x2 of course.... but more room for gear in the cab and in the box.- stopped in Ronan at the light at US93 and Round Butte Rd...
There is an overamped State Trouper waiting down the road that will find a way to tax them for displaying two different license plates from two different states at that.
Many years ago I purchased personalized plates for my main vehicle. After a few years I decided to skip the extra expense and went back to a regular plate. We are a state with only a rear plate, except personalized which go on both front and rear. I left the front one in place after getting a standard one for the official, rear location. Had more than one officer of the law point out that was not legal. Then I would show them the words on the front plate that read,"Not an official plate".
Apparently some people were trying to put the front plate on a separate vehicle to cut their expenses in half. That's why they had to add the words to the front plate.

The last time I was in Montana, working, the local trooper told me to buy a Montana tag or he would give me a ticket for not having one. For about two month I was running two tags, One from Oklahoma and one from Montana.
BTW that was 1970.

Nah, the Topper a/c thingy is from one state and the van from another. 😉

South Dakota sells plates via email and fax. We see lots of them here. Motorhome owners use them to beat the tax man.

I believe the California laws state that out of state registrations are valid, but if the vehicle will be operated within the state for more than 2 weeks, California tags must be purchased. I'm not sure if there is a "temporary resident" tag that you can get or not.
I had a friend that had family that lived in Oregon, so he kept all of his vehicles registered up there. Not sure how he kept convincing the state troopers that he lived there even though he owned and operated his business here...
all it takes is an anonymous phone call to prompt the Calif. DMV to send notice of lien to the owner of record...
DMV now uses the Franchise Tax Board for collections of presumed debts. They are tough dogs to fight off.
My 89 F150 4WD mountain edition truck came from Oregon and would pass California inspection until 5yrs ago when I completely rebuilt everything under the hood from bumper to bumper except all that smog stuff.
They don't smog test here, only the large metrocities in Texas do.
Texas does not allow dual licensed being displayed and there best be on on the front bumper too.
