An Empty Coffin Should Not Be Too Heavy...

The Batesville Casket Co. is located in Batesville MS (north end of the State near Ole Miss). According to a recent discussion with a Serta mattress salesman, the serta factory is located next door to the casket co. "however comfort is not a concern with the casket co." I kid you not!

An Empty Coffin Should Not Be Too Heavy...

As a side note, this past June when my Mom passed away at the age of 87, my Dad my brother and myself made the arrangements at the funeral home and the cemetary. Somehow I wound up picking the casket and my reasoning to the funeral director went something like this: "It's going to be a wooden casket and not a metal one. My Mom was a homemaker and raised 5 kids. She spent most of her life in a house built of wood. Putting her in a metal casket would be akin to sending her away in an eternal mobile home and thats not going to happen." The Funeral Director said he'd never thought about it like that. Yeah, I guess not.

You didn't order any "deep discount end of life" surveying equipment from Hayes did you?;-)

Many years ago, I interviewed for a job with the Batesville Casket company (largest in the world, same company that makes samsonite luggage). I got an extensive tour of one of their factories. Interesting, but rather macabre. I was told business was good and they had never had a layoff.

This is so much a better story than mine.

A couple weeks ago I received a letter to my address, for a woman named Lisa. My address and last name, but, her first name. Took it the next morning to my friend who lives one mile directly east of me with the same address number. Her husband is in the yard, so I show it to him first. He says the envelope looks like something that would be used to send you the results of a pregnancy test. Then adds,"And, if their positive, I'm gonna kick your A$$".

His wife, Lisa, recognized the return address as that of her aunt who is in her mid-80's. Whew! Dodged that bullet!

I'm surprised we haven't heard from Scott today, and am anxiously awaiting further news. Hope it didn't belong to Guido's boss.

Bill, I am also concerend as motor vehicle manufacturers

have a policy of just in time delivery of components....

Am wondering if the "powers that be" are now redirecting just in time principles....

Maybe a "Silent Strike" used by parcel carriers when companies try to get cheap by shipping large bulk freight using UPS's cheaper rates.
It generally works by freight "Falling" out of trucks.

It's probably from the MIL, that way, next Christmas she can say "Why would I get you anything? You didn't use what I got you last year!".

Sorry for your loss, Dave. 🙁

OK, There's NO LONGER a coffin in my driveway.

Yesterday I managed to find the packing list under one side of the box and called the owner. Seems it was a Batesville after all. All the shipping stickers covered up part of the name on the top.
The proud new owner of one casket had the same street address as me, but in the next town over. So while I was at work the casket disappeared. Which makes me very happy.
Seems one child size casket is required for the local "playhouse" (which stages in a VFW Hall). And heck, it'll be great at Halloween.

Um, OK.

Funny thing is, halfway through our phone discussion she cheerily says to me, "Funny you say your name is Scott. We get your mail every once in a while. So if your missing anything..."

HUH! What the hell is that?

I should have kept it and made a coffee table/cooler out of it.
How cool would that have been?

Well it would have been a heck of a conversation piece. You could serve the inlaws dinner on it. Wait a few minutes and tell them the story of what they were dining on.

Can you imagine the pics?

Seriously I would mention the incident to the postmaster. Who knows what important doc may never get to you.

Glad to know it wasn't really for a kid that passed on. Here I was all worried some family had no casket to bury their kid in or something. (I'm a softie!) 😐

How could you use it for a coffee table if it is rounded at the top?? A cooler, now THAT would of been something else!! "Yea just grab your  outta that thing there" as you point to the cooler/casket combo. :-O :{:
