News story

Very sad story. What amazed me was that after going on about how rare such an infection is..maybe 1 case every 2 years....the officials warn against swimming in freshwater bodies of water?? What kind of officials would say such a thing?

Very sad, indeed. She gave a very generous gift though in the end by donating her organs. Rest in peace, kiddo.

If they don't, they get sued.

Nice catch Perry!

A 17 year old girl just died from swimming in my river.

amoebic encephalitis

That kinda puts a damper on the summer fun.

It happens more than you all are hearing about.

Very happy to know that it is very, very rare compared to the number of opportunities to occur. As kids around here, we spent far more time in small creeks and ponds than we ever did in municipal swimming pools.
