I see that barnes and noble have released a nook tablet. It looks like the nook color and I'm wondering if it's just the nook color re-rooted with a new OS? Does anyone know if that's the case?

It's been updated with a faster processor and more RAM. The display is the same.

It's the same basic reader with increased memory and tablet capabilities like Netflix and Hulu built in.
If you want just a reader, go with the nook Color. If you want a tablet, go with the new one. It's small and easy to carry, but I just don't see watching movies on a 7" screen.
Tablets are for people who travel a lot or just don't want to lug around a laptop.
The upside for me is that they lowered the costof the Nook Color to a point that I can place subtle hints to the kids as to what I would like for Christmas.

I already have the nook color. I just haven't re-rooted it "yet." (Or gone all Wendell on it, so to speak) Thinking of it though!

any thoughts comparing the two? SWMBO has been hinting she might want one.

I'm running Gingerbread on mine. It's running off the SD card, so I can go back to the stock B&N OS just by removing the card and rebooting. So far, so good.

I'm a huge nook fan and am on my second after an upgrade to the color so I am not a good person to ask 🙂

I suggest that you check with your library and see what they support, and remember that nook does support epub and pdf formats..
