A couple of mornings ago I'm up early, around 0600, and in the kitchen getting something to drink. I see car taillights sitting in the road across the street. I peek out to see 2 un-marked and 1 regular patrol car. No blue lights, just running lights. Cops are going in and out for a while. Just before 0700 they come out with my neighbor, un-cuffed, and he helps himself into the back of the patrol. They all leave. I barely know him so I never asked anyone else.
This afternoon a local TV crew shows up across at the same place. After my 2-hour conference call, I go across to ask his landlord what's up. A child-porn sting statewide here in GA a few days ago apparently got him as part of it. WOW! What little I do know about him, I never would figure him for that. They tried to interview his mother but she wouldn't come out. Then the landlord runs the TV crew saying to put his address or picture his duplex for the camera. They left.
About 30 minutes later while I'm still chatting with the landlord a new commotion down the street ensues. People start running that way hollering about calling 911. A car is parked in the middle of street with someone laying by the front-left tire - not moving. Presumably one of the local kids. Someone hollers "she doesn't want 911 called" to which I replied "call them anyway, they aren't moving!!". A few minutes later here come the sirens - 3 patrol cars (1 is a K9 unit), an ambulance and fire truck. Out comes the backboard and neck-brace immediately. Why the K9 unit and fire truck is in question. After about 30 minutes of all that, the kid gets up and walks off.
Talk about drama!! Good God!

Could be the reason why that woman down the street was so concerned about you playing catch with her son a week or two ago.
I never thought about that.
But nah, they are in the other direction down the street.
Besides, she walked by in the afternoon while I was sitting outside and we said hi to each other. She was totally friendly. Might have just been having a bad day that day.

Eric, around here, fire crews are usually the first to arrive on scene(in a fire truck). Calfire/volunteer. Calfire is actually a very professional outfit and does a all around great job in my opinion. They are trained EMT first responders and have equipment that the ambulance does not. For example -air bags to lift a car off somebody.
AS far as the K-9 unit goes...well when the dispatch goes out, if your in the area and available - you respond.
K9 could have been brought in for crowd control.
When young boy is hit by a car and the scenario is unknown, the crowd gathering could spin-off unfavorably at the scene.
I suppose given the right neighborhood. I do see stuff like that happen on "COPS".
That would be unheard of in my location (except for a few trailer parks) 😉
About why the fire truck came: dispatch information is always treated with suspicion. Until someone from an emergency agency gets on the scene and determines there will be no need to extricate the injured person from the vehicle, and that there are no fluids leaking from the vehicle that will have to be soaked up, the fire truck will continue.
